Trams for Swansea
Although I hardly ever comment on Swansea, this story is very interesting.
Although I hardly ever comment on Swansea, this story is very interesting. We have all heared or seen the adaptations going on in Swansea in preparation for the new ‘bendy-buses’, but this morning I read an article on the BBC website. They write about Cllr. Rob Speht’s campaign to introduce trams to Swansea.
To be honest, this is a campaign I have agreed with for a while, having first hand experience of travelling through and into Swansea. But reading this morning about Cllr. Speht’s vision to have trams serving the outlying regions of Swansea Bay, including Baglan, Port Talbot and Llanelli has sparked some interest in this for me. Forgetting the obvious economic advantages of this kind of scheme for Swansea, Llanelli would greatly benefit by having greater connections to other areas in our locality. There is even a potential for connecting other areas of the Llanelli district including Burry Port, Kidwelly and Tycroes.
This has the potential to connect all the isolated areas of the suburban areas of Swansea, including the Swansea and Amman valleys. It could spark metropolitan-style centre in Swansea while greatly reducing carbon emissions and congestion from cars and buses.
I plead for all of you to sign the petition at the Trams4Swansea website. The more support we raise the greater the chance for success.
