Scarlets Stadium Opens The controversial move from Stradey to a new stadium in the Pemberton area is not complete. The management of the rugby region seem to have disenfranchised a number of supporters and the team has consistently failed to draw in the number of supporters required to make the team financially viable.
On the other hand, the stadium has succeeded in drawing in international rugby and will soon host international football. It will also be available to host European football for which Llanelli A.F.C. should qualify once again.
Kidwelly Town Council By-Election A by-election was held for a seat on Kidwelly Town Council in November after the resignation of Independent Councillor Michael Higgins. There were two candidates, Keith Davies (Labour) and Jack Holmes (Independent). Keith Davies was returned with 285 votes.
Burry Port Town Council By-Election A by-election was held for a seat on Burry Port Town Council after the resignation of Plaid Cymru’s Carwyn Fowler. Although little seems to be known about the election, it’s my understanding that it was won by an Independent.
Town Centre There are even fewer shops now in Llanelli Town Centre. There has been constant arguments between the leadership of the Independent and Plaid Cymru groups on the County Council, which at times have descended to mudslinging. Much of this is no-doubt down to the failure of the Independent/Labour group to cooperate with the Plaid group on any level. Labour has been silent on the issue.
Plans to regenerate the town centre have been pushed through. These include a new theatre (which will have a smaller capacity than the current town theatre) and a multiscreen cinema. The Council has failed to listen to the public and incorporate the historic Island House Inn into the master plan. The County will now compulsorily purchase and demolish the pub.
Labour Choose New Candidate for Assembly Election The Llanelli Labour Party have selected former education chief Keith Price Davies as their candidate for the next Assembly election in 2011. More to follow on this story.
